Artist Statement

Shams Naghdali was born in Azerbaijan and raised in Moscow in an intellectually family — an architect and a teacher. Although she felt a deep connection to art from an early age, her path to becoming an artist unfolded gradually.

Initially trained as an international journalist, Shams later earned a PhD in Cultural Studies in 2020. This academic journey deepened her understanding of heritage, symbolism, and identity, eventually leading her to embrace art not only as a passion, but as a lifelong calling.

Since 2023, Shams has been the founder and director of Mojswiat.art School, where she conducts both group and private art classes. Her early works focused on landscapes and still lifes, through which she honed her technique with dedication and sensitivity. Today, her artistic language blends memory, culture, and personal narrative into expressive visual stories.
